Hats and Mittens

THE PLAN

Playtime
We have a puzzle or some sensory toys out at the beginning of Storytime.  After we are done playing, the children grab their name tags and put them in the basket.

Two Little Hands

All About Today
Friday's weather was cold and sunny.  It was really cold here today, thanks to the 5 inches of snow yesterday.

Learning Time:
This session is devoted to learning about the letters of the alphabet.  The children use flashcards to match up the letters that I show them on the bean bag.  I usually use 6 letters each session for matching so it doesn't take too long.

Read & Listen:

Today we read, The Mitten by Jan Brett.  The kids really enjoyed this book.  I was pleasantly surprised how well they sat and listened.  The bear trying to get into the mitten was probably their favorite part of the book.  He just looked so big compared to all of the other animals.

Special Activity:
As our special activity this week, we played with sensory dominoes.  Instead of the dominoes having numbers, they have a different texture at each end of the domino.  First I gave the kids one domino and had them feel each end.  Then out of the rest of the dominoes left, I had them choose another domino that matched one of their textures on the first domino.  The kids went crazy!  They wanted to feel their dominoes, then each other's dominoes.

Christmas Stockings
This is our last Storytime for fall, and because Christmas is next week, the library gave out Christmas stockings.  Each child got a stocking stuffed with a coloring book, crayons, a necklace kit, and a book!  Santa really knows each kid and gave them exactly what they wanted!  Thank you Leslie for putting those lovely stockings together!

Ending Song:
See this post for our ending song.
