Happy Birthday Smokey!

**Don't forget about our Summer Reading Party, Friday August 15 @ 9:30am! **

THE PLAN

Playtime
We played with the gears and blocks today.

Two Little Hands
We stretched out our limbs and shook out our wiggles before doing our rhyme.  See this post for our Two Little Hands rhyme.

Beginning Song
See this post for our Beginning Song.

All About Today
Friday's weather was warm and sunny!

Read & Listen:
First we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See by Bill Martin Jr.

Song: "If You're a Bear and You Know It" sung to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It"
First verse: If you’re a panda bear and you know it, clap your paws
Second verse: If you’re a polar bear and you know it, show your teeth
Third verse: If you’re a grizzly bear and you know it, growl real loud

Read & Listen:
Then we put on our party hats and read the Story of Smokey.

Activity:
We pinned the hat on Smokey today for our activity.  Kids colored hats and then closed their eyes and tried to put them on Smokey's head!

The kids had a great time spinning around in circles before trying.  It was quite difficult to get the hats on Smokey's head!

Happy Birthday Smokey!!

Reading Logs due tomorrow!

All About Today
Friday's weather was warm and sunny!

Read & Listen:
First we read Birds by Kevin Henkes.

Rhyme:
Action Rhyme: “Little Birds”
Little birds, little birds, jump up and down
Little birds, little birds, don’t make a sound
Little birds, little birds, tip-toe to me
Little birds, little birds, bend your knees
Little birds, little birds, peep, peep, peep
Little birds, little birds, sleep, sleep, sleep
Little birds, little birds, fly to the leaves
Little birds, little birds, sit down please

Read & Listen:
Then we read Feathers for Lunch by Lois Ehlert.

Activity:
We made bird puppets today!  Volunteers cut out a bird shape from heavy card stock, and we taped them to Popsicle sticks.  I had the kids color the birds, and then glue feathers on for wings!

Both are hard at work on their birds.

The finished product today.  Lots of cheeping as they were leaving the library!
