What's on Cassie's radar this week?

Storytime comes back for the summer on May 9!
The theme for the summer session is science!

Cassie's reading these books this week:

Can You See Me? by Ted Lewin
Various rain forest animals show how their camouflage helps them blend into their environment.

Bear's Big Bottom by Steve Smallman & Emma Yarlett
Bear was friendly. Bear was sweet. He was the nicest bear you'd ever meet! He had little paws and little feet and a very big bottom, which gets him into big trouble. Can he ever make it up to his friends?

Reading Tip:
Be interactive while reading with your child!  Discuss what is happening in the book, point out what's on the page, and ask questions!  Cassie loves to have the children count things on the page (number of bugs, kids, etc.).

What's on Cassie's radar this week?

Cassie's reading two books this week:

The Very Tiny Baby by Sylvie Kantorovitz
A very young boy tells his teddy bear about his mixed feelings over the premature birth of his new sibling, and his guilty resentment at the adult's preoccupation with the tiny baby.

Water Can Be... by Laura Purdie Salas
This picture book poetically explores the many things water can be--from home maker and ship breaker to cloud fluffer and fire snuffer.

Reading Tip:
Read favorite stories again and again.  Seek out books about things your child especially likes.  These books will extend their attention span and build enthusiasm for reading.

What's on Cassie's radar this week?

The last day to turn in Spring Reading Logs is Thursday, April 17!

The library will be closed on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.

There is no Storytime this week!  Storytime starts back up on May 9.

This week is National Library Week!  Stop into the library and enjoy some lovely treats!

This week, Cassie is reading Matilda's Cat by Emily Gravett

Matilda attempts to figure out what her cat likes and dislikes.

Reading Tip:
Toddlers need to move, so don't worry if they skip, romp or tumble as you read to them.  They may be moving, but they are listening!

THE PLAN

Playtime
We played with an alphabet train puzzle today

Two Little Hands
We stretched out our limbs and shook out our wiggles before doing our rhyme.  See this post for our Two Little Hands rhyme.

Beginning Song
See this post for our Beginning Song.

All About Today
Friday's weather was cool and cloudy!  We have officially moved to SPRING!  The kids decided that there was no snow on the ground, so it's spring!

Read & Listen:
We read two books today!  This Storytime session, we are focusing on different authors.  For this Storytime, we read books by Karma Wilson.    We first read Bear's New Friend!

We also said this really fun Teddy Bear rhyme:
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Turn around!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the ground!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Jump up high!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch the sky!

Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Bend down low!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Touch you toes!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Turn out the light!
Teddy bear, teddy bear,
Say good night!

Then we read Bear Wants More!

Learning Time
I hid feet cutouts around the library.  I had fifteen with numbers, and fifteen with dots on them.  First the kids had to find all of the feet cutouts (even I had some trouble!) and then we had to match the number with the correct number of dots.  The kids love finding things around the library.
