Activity:
We made apple wreaths today. I cut out a bunch of apple shapes using Eau Claire Library's die cut machine. Then our lovely volunteer, Jane, cut paper plates into a wreath shape. And the end result:
The shapes didn't stick as well as I thought they were going to. They had a blast though!

Then we put on our party hats and read the Story of Smokey.
Activity:
We pinned the hat on Smokey today for our activity. Kids colored hats and then closed their eyes and tried to put them on Smokey's head!
The kids had a great time spinning around in circles before trying. It was quite difficult to get the hats on Smokey's head!

Activity:
We made bird puppets today! Volunteers cut out a bird shape from heavy card stock, and we taped them to Popsicle sticks. I had the kids color the birds, and then glue feathers on for wings!
Both are hard at work on their birds.
The finished product today. Lots of cheeping as they were leaving the library!

We did something a little different today! We watched the animated version of the Caldecott winner, Locomotive by Brian Floca. The book comes alive, with realistic train noises. It's a bit long, but it's worth it to see how interested the kids get into the book.
Activity
I found a cute spinner which has different "I Spy" actions on it. We played with this to end our Storytime. We searched for things that have different colors and things that are different shapes. It's a simple game that teaches children that shapes are found everywhere around them.
