All About Today
Friday's weather was warm and sunny!  We finally switched from Spring to Summer!

Read & Listen:
We read two books today!  First we read Count the Monkeys by Mac Barnett.

Then we sang a couple of silly songs, all by Jim Gill!  The first one was Poison Ivy and then we sang Crazy Dance Song

We read another book, Daisy Gets Lost by Chris Raschka.

Goodbye Song
I changed it up a bit this Storytime.  We sang our goodbye song before the activity, so we could actually sing it.  We do Itsy Bitsy Spider for our goodbye song.  We also sang about the great big spider, the teeeeny tiny spider, and the rockin' rollin' spider.

Science Activity
We played with bubbles today!  I made a homemade bubble mixture using 6 cups water, 2 cups Joy dish soap, and 1 cup corn syrup.  They were supposed to be "indestructible" but they were just like normal bubbles.  Next time I'll use store-bought bubbles, or search for a recipe that doesn't include corn syrup.  We also had a birthday today!  One of our regulars turned 5 today, and he brought in cake pops to share with the rest of us.  They were chocolate (my favorite!).

All About Today
Friday's weather was cool and cloudy!

Read & Listen:
We read two books today!  First we read Tea Rex by Molly Idle.

Then we sang a couple of silly songs, all by Jim Gill!  The first one was Tea for Two  and then we Hands Are For Clapping.

We read another book, The Black Rabbit by Philippa Leathers.

Today we talked about balloons and static electricity.  I had the kids guess if I could stick the balloon to the wall, they said no.  Then I asked them if I could get the balloon to stick to the wall if I rubbed it on my hair, they said no.  Their eyes lit up when it actually stayed on the wall!  I had enough balloons for everyone, and we were sticking them to the wall and batting them around.  The kids loved the activity.

All About Today
Friday's weather was cool and windy!  I asked the kids when they think summer is.  They said that we have to wear shorts and t-shirts.  I think we have awhile before we can say it's summer.

Read & Listen:
We read two books today!  First we read Have You Heard the Nesting Bird? by Rita Gray.

Then we sang a couple of silly songs, all by Jim Gill!  The first one was The Tempo Marches On (click to hear the song) and then we sang Knuckles Knees.

We read another book, Hank Finds an Egg by Rebecca Dudley.

It's different than what we're used to in Storytime, because this book has no words!  I had the kids tell me what they thought was happening in each picture.  They especially loved the end, where the cute hummingbirds come out to play.

Art Time
Today we played with model magic dough.  The kids made a lot of things, one little girl made a bracelet and a ring.

Library Notes: May 6, 2014

What's on Cassie's radar this week?

Today we're going to the elementary school for our annual outreach program!
Here are some photos when Tom Pease came to visit last year!

Look for photos from today's program to appear on the blog in the near future.

Storytime starts again on May 9!  In case you can't tell, we're going to be focusing on science this session!  We will also be incorporating more songs and more art, so get ready for some fun!

Cassie's reading these books this week:

Puddle Pug by Kim Norman
Percy the pug searches far and wide for the perfect puddle but when he finds it, Mama Pig is unhappy about him joining her family until a storm provides Percy the opportunity to prove himself to her.

Following Papa's Song by Gianna Marino
Little Blue, a young humpback whale, has never made the long migration up the coast, and he is worried about his first long journey with Papa.

Look for a poster at the library counting down the days until summer vacation!
