Jan Thomas

THE PLAN
*After an unintended absence from the Storytime blog, we are back with a new theme!*
Playtime
Our one boy put together a puzzle.

Two Little Hands
We stretched out our limbs and shook out our wiggles before doing our rhyme.  See this post for our Two Little Hands rhyme.

Beginning Song
See this post for our Beginning Song.

All About Today
Friday's weather was cold and sunny!  We also talked about how we know when it's going to be spring (answer: it's going to be awhile).

Read & Listen:
We read one book today!  This Storytime session, we are focusing on different authors.  For this Storytime, we read books by Jan Thomas.    We read The Doghouse.

Finally we finished with Rhyming Dust Bunnies!

Dr. Seuss

THE PLAN
Playtime
We didn't have playtime today.  With 12 children in our tiny Storytime room, we got right into the program!

Two Little Hands
We stretched out our limbs and shook out our wiggles before doing our rhyme.  See this post for our Two Little Hands rhyme.

Beginning Song

All About Today
Friday's weather was cold and sunny!  We also talked about how we know when it's going to be spring (answer: it's going to be awhile).

Read & Listen:
We read one book today!  This Storytime session, we are focusing on different authors.  For this Storytime, we read books by Dr. Seuss.    We read If I Ran the Zoo.

Then we said this rhyme, called "Animals":
Let’s hear you roar like a lion!
Let’s see you jump like a frog!
Let’s see you snap your jaws like a crocodile!
Let’s hear you howl like a dog!
Pretend you’re an elephant with a big, looooong, truck.
Pretend you’re a monkey. Let’s see you jump, jump, jump!
And now you’re a mouse. Just let me see
How very, very quiet you can be.

We sang the ending song, and then we went out into the library and we created shapes using yarn and our bodies!

It was a lot of fun!  We had 12 kids, so two groups would have probably been more manageable.  Next week, Matthew will be leading Storytime!  He'll be reading books by Mo Willems and he has a special surprise for the kids!

Locomotive by Brian Floca won the Caldecott Medal!
The Caldecott goes to the most distinguished American Picture Book published in the previous year.  The award goes to the illustrator, not the author.

Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo won the Newbery Award!
*Fun Fact! Kate DiCamillo lives in Minnesota!*
The Newbery Award goes to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
