999 Tadpoles

999 Tadpoles by Ken Kimura
After 999 tadpoles grow into frogs, they outgrow their home pond.  Moving to their new home is fraught with dangers- snakes in the grass and hawks in the sky.  A small frog is a tasty morsel for a hungry animal.  Will they find a new home or will someone get eaten?

Building Bridges

THE PLAN

Playtime
We played with a bunch of toys this morning, and to my surprise, many people came to Storytime!

Beginning Song
First we shook out our wiggles.  The kids know the beginning song really well.  They helped me wake up Toby, and then we were on our way!

All About Today
Friday's weather was cold and sunny.  We finally decided that the season was Spring!

Read & Listen:
We read Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! by Candace Fleming today.  The kids were engrossed in the story.  They wanted to know what kind of fence the farmer was going to build next.  The bunnies were adorable as well.

Learning Time:
The farmer makes walls around his garden to keep the rabbits out, so we decided to make bridges for Storytime.  I created some types of bridges made of folded paper before Storytime, so we placed those bridges on top of two plastic cups.  We then placed some of our round magnets on the tops of the bridges to see which design would hold the most weight.  The winner?  A piece of card stock folded into thirds!

Will It Grow?

THE PLAN

Playtime
We played with a bunch of toys this morning, and to my surprise, many people came to Storytime!

Beginning Song
Toby was a naughty puppy and rearranged the schedule pieces that we use for Storytime. He put them backward!  Since Toby was "sleeping" since December we had to yell doubly hard to wake him up.  The kids got really into it.

All About Today
Friday's weather was cold and snowy.

Read & Listen:

We read Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow? by Susan A. Shea.  The kids really got a kick out of the book- and compares animals and other things and how they grow.  For example, can a stool grow and become a chair?  The kids had fun saying "No!" to all of the weird questions.

Learning Time:
We used growing capsules during Learning Time today.  Each child got to pick a capsule and we put them in cups of warm water.  Then we waited.  And waited.  And waited some more.  The kids were very surprised that the capsules were actually sponges.  They were a big hit and I would definitely do those capsules again.
